Joy on a DVD. Add it to your life today!

This cold and wet spring weather we are having has presented me with unexpected opportunity to catch up on some much needed work inside the house. I finally got around to re-watching The Way We Were. I fell in love all over again with Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford. The dialogue is smart, the fashion is lovely, the love story is heartfelt, and the ending will make you cry my friends, like you do when you realize something you love dearly can not be. And that soundtrack . It sticks to your bones.... "It's the laughter that we remember, whenever we remember the way we were..." Ahhhh As I am sure we are all in countdown mode to May 27th’s Big Event , let me remind you that before there was Miss Carrie Bradshaw, there was Miss Katie Morosky and her illusive Mr. Big. During so many scenes I gasped at the resemblances I found with Sex and the City… Watch the Way We Were the next available time you have. Wrap a blanket around you, grab a good cup of tea, and let y

Saving graces, on sick and cloudy days...

We have a household full of cold germs and sick people. We have viruses and bacteria. We have allergies and sinus infections. We have penicillin and antibiotics galore. Chills and fevers have been coming and going for almost FOUR weeks. They will not leave our home. We have been taken hostage. S.O.S. people!! First, for those of my readers (all three of you) who don’t have children, let me begin by saying that having a sick child is a very very sad thing. They can’t breath, they don’t understand the value of fluid intake which leads to dehydration and mood swings (in my humble opinion), and they don’t feel like eating and get weak. Bringing down fevers is sometimes a monumental task. And then there is the nights. They can’t sleep. They want mama. They want mama to hold, and to soothe, and to just hang out. Which is lovely. But the next day, no matter how little the little ones sleep, they are energetic, and mama is a drowsy mess! HOWEVER, wi

The joys of having a miniature lemon tree

Once again our beloved unassuming lemon tree has blossomed. The look of it makes us giggle; the lovely smell of it makes us dizzy. So much so that UrbanBaby had to take a nap in its shade on the living room floor the other day. That took our breath away too… Today we finally plucked our last lemon from the tree in the anticipation of many more to come next lemon season. The big yellow lemon looked so good in UrbanBaby’s lil’ hand. She said limoo (lemon in Farsi) for the very first time – it was amazing. We drizzled some of the juice on grilled cod for dinner. Used the grind for sautéing some delicious asparagus. I still have 2 slices of it left for my hubby and I to put in our water later this evening. When you find something this good, you must savor every bit of it. Thank god for our little lemon tree .

Twinkle, Twinkle, 2 Bright Stars....

If you don't know who Mohsen Namjoo or Tara Kamangar are, please rectify that ASAP! If you do know them and haven't seen their work lately, please do yourself a favor and pray that the opportunity comes up soon. It is odd to mention these two passionate artists together. One being a Harvard educated classical pianist and the other being the Iranian Bob Dylan on the Lute . However, last night, in what was an ABSOLUTE TREAT, the two came together for a performance organized by the Stanford University’s Iranian Studies Program (Thank you!). Before going further let me add that this is one of the things that I love about Silicon Valley and the Bay Area... The best of the world's artists, thinkers, and writers seem to make their way out here quite often and without much fanfare... and we get to experience unique collaborations such as this one with Tara and Namjoo... What Tara Kamangar and Mohsen Namjoo have in common besides being able to completely transfer you to another w
