The Big Day

Mr. Urban had an all day event in the Big city.  My girl was up bright and early and with a cold, so the best line of action was morning at the park.  After we hit our favorite bagel shop in town for some bagels (and coffee), we made it to the park with the morning mist still undisturbed on the grassy areas and the slides.  My girl had the excitement of a pioneer, cocooned inside her cozy hoodie. Later a man who was out for a walk commended us on our Game Day attire, as unbeknownst to us today is the Big Game.  This game is so big, especially in our community, that the term "Big Game" only refers to this very particular annual American football game between Stanford and Cal (UC Berkeley) if you look it up on a Google or Wikipedia search.  My girl promptly corrected the man that her fashion choice had nothing to do with football, "I just wanted to be cozy!" Later we ventured to the toy store for a couple of Big Girl Toys.  Mr. Urban had mentioned ea

Old Fashion Domesticated Bliss

After a week of eighty plus degree weather, this morning was humid and slightly cooler and overcast and beautiful to wake up to. I got up at five.  Sleep is intermittent and illusive these days.  Perhaps my body is in re-training mode in anticipation of a new baby. The morning was about sipping homemade instant cafe au lait ( I serendipitously came across a delicious brand called Elite that is served at our local Humus joint, which is oh so good with a cup of steaming whole or 2% milk) and home work.  I have always liked home work.... dusting, organizing, Windexing...   But since becoming a mother, I find it hard to find big stretches of time to devote to it.  Mornings like today when three loads of laundry got done without interruption and the home looked extra loved was an experience in Zen meditation for me. Before lunch my girl and I fancied up and met my mother in law and her lovely sister for a ladies only high noon tea at the cute tea shop in Menlo Park. Demure and

Pumpkins, Pumpkins everywhere

Our little pumpkin turned 4! We opted for a Disney trip to celebrate the occasion, as organizing a little girl's party, with all her vision and hopes was beyond us at this point in time.  My parents joined us in LA for a fun weekend of Beaches and Minnie Mouse and lots of good food and lots of deserts to sing Happy Birthday with to the birthday girl. This Fall promises to keep us very busy at the very least.   All the excitement around the election, daily Violin practices on a box, and that pesky TV cable that was suddenly swallowed up by the wall and has kept me mesmerized for the past 3 nights watching Mr. Urban apply various methods to grab that sucker out!  We haven't yet visited a pumpkin patch this year, which seems to be a huge point of contention for our little girl.  One that was not remedied by agreeing to buy over a dozen tiny pumpkins each time we visit Trader Joe's and displaying them all over the house.  Finally, earlier this week I decided t
