Mr. Urban and I had decided that we would not make a big fuss decorating the UrbanBaby Nursery. We bought the softest pink sheets. Yellow linen curtains. A lovely brown wooden crib and matching dresser.
We promised each other that we would not paint the room or get involved in time consuming wall decoration projects, mainly since at the time, Mr. Urban was in the throes of a tech start-up and each night as he would crawl into bed at obscene a.m. hours, he would sweetly whisper that focusing on work now would allow him more time with the UrbanBaby once she arrived, when we both needed him the most.... (you say a lot to each other when you are becoming parents which have nothing to do with reality, but believing them gets you through...)
However, weeks before the big date, I decided that I love Winnie the Pooh. I didn't know much about his story, but he looked so adorable and wholesome that I had to have him in the Nursery. So I bought the cutest Winnie the Pooh lamp, a stuffed toy, and pre-pasted wallpaper border of Pooh and his friends in the forest, skipping around, taking naps, picnicking...
In theory, these pre-pasted wallpaper borders should take no more than ten minutes to mount, as conveyed to the poor non-suspecting consumer by the instructions, which I in turn conveyed to Mr. Urban when he reminded me of our decision to keep things simple. In fact, that is not the case.
Let's just say, that after various trips to the far away hardware store for alternative types of adhesives, we finally had to hire two wallpaper professionals for half a day to repaint the wall (to cover all the damage brought to it) and mount the sucker!
We love that banner though. It was the best money we spent on the Nursery. Many a sleep-less night I have imagined myself in the same beautiful green forest, skipping around together with Winnie and his friends, butterflies trying to chase us.
